So, I see how it is going to be… Apparently, I am only going to come online to blog about something when it pisses me off. Take for example, the PS3 (Playstation 3) software update that came out about 3 days ago.
This is the 2.35 update I am talking about. The one that was rumored to be a ‘fix’ for GTA4 (which by the way *had* been functioning flawlessly on my machine since the day it was released). Since it came in as a ‘required’ update, I went ahead and installed it. What I should have done is unplug the ethernet cable and continued happily playing. Why you ask? Well, as it turns out, as soon as the software update finished installing, and I started my 70% completed GTA4 so I could go beat up and kill people and/or hookers, when BOOM! Error 80010514. WTF? Try COD? 80010514…
As soon as I typed the numbers into google, I knew it was bad. 71,000 hits. (not counting this one) Oh, I tried the usual… Default settings (nope), quick format and reset (nope), complete format and reset (4 hours later, nope). After the complete format and reset, I expected to see an older software version? (nope, 2.35 is still there). Isn’t it wonderful that I can’t get to an older, “working” software version?
So, I called the Tech Support line (on a side note, they make you listen to ADVERTISEMENTS before giving you the press 1 for this press 2 for that options). So, of course, the only thing they could say was that they would send me a box to ship it back to them, and they would have it for about 14 ‘working’ days (read at least a month without the console).
I know damn well that if they broke it with software, then they can fix it with software. I kind of think that they want my machine just so they can use it to do QA Regression Tests for the forthcoming fix for their fix.
I’d rather keep it here, and keep playing downloaded games until they have the fix ready. But I won’t. The box will come, I’ll ship it out, then go down and buy a replacement, with the extra warranty so I can do an in store exchange next time. That way, when they ship another broken software update, and force it down our throats by ‘requiring’ the update, I will have a backup to use.
In case you couldn’t tell, I think a forced update is bullshit… Rant done.
If you came here because you did the PS3 update to version 2.35, and was rewarded with error 80010514, please leave a comment.
